Sumitra works as a sweepress in a home in Dehradun. She is the mother of three children. Today, she can proudly say that she has also worked as the chief pressed-flower decorator of our handcrafted products.
The money that Sumitra earned from her work, she used to educate her children. She even arranged tution facilities for them. Moreover, she made it a point to save a small portion of her earnings.
Sumitra used her savings to build a pucca brick home for her family, complete with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a terrace, and a porch. She has even let one of her rooms out on rent to a young couple.
We have seen Sumitra's journey from a sweepress who lived in a thatched roof hut to a woman who has given her family more than they could have ever asked for. And we are proud of her.
"My work with flowers has changed my life completely," she says. "I don't have to ask my husband for money any more. I am independent."
