Radha's Story

Radha's father abandoned his family a few years ago, leaving his wife with the responsibilty of raising and educating her children alone.. To make ends meet, Radha's mother works as a cook for a family in Dehradun.

Who we are

as she shows me her drawing books. She tells me that when she finished her Class 12, she wasn't sure what she wanted to do next; a part of her wanted to become a police officer, while another wanted to pursue her love for drawing and designing. But Radha knew she came from a financially deprived home. And so she gave up her dreams, and joined her mother in her domestic work.

Shene heard of Radha's story from the lady in whose servant's quarter Radha lives with her mother and sister. And it took just one meeting with the young girl to realise that her talent for drawing must not be ignored. Shene enrolled Radha on a one-year textile design course at the ONGC Polytechnic.

Under professional guidance, Radha has designed bedspreads, cushion covers, salwar kurtas, and table mats.

She is happy that she has been given the opportunity to study further and refine her skill in drawing and designing. She hopes that she will one day be able to start selling her work.
